DESIGN METHODOLOGY FOR CANAL SLOPE REINFORCEMENT BASED ON DIAGRAMS FOR VELOCITY DISTRIBUTION ALONG CANAL BED WIDTH
Abstract
The paper describes a mechanism of a canal bed flow influence on its slopes. The formulas are presented to determine velocity limits against washout of slopes. These formulas allow to estimate separately stability of the slopes as well as a bed bottom. The paper contains diagrams for distribution of average velocity values measured on vertical and velocity limits along a canal width. The methodology for selection of reinforcing types differentiated according to depth on the basis of velocity distribution diagrams.
